Established in 2014, NTZDC commercial department is responsible for value addition of the Corporation’s products across the value chain. Currently, the department sells 10% of tea produced from Kipchabo Tea Factory locally. The department is also responsible for tea auction process that deals with tea exports sold through the auction.
The main purpose of establishing the administrative division was to create value addition opportunities for NTZDC teas by introducing new brands so as to optimize value from the market.
To date, the Corporation has introduced five brands into the local market, including Chabo Tea, Chabo Tea bag, Eco Tea, Kipchabo FDS and soon to be launched Najma Tea.Plans are underway to introduce more brands and varieties of tea products for both local and export markets. Presently the Corporations’ brands are distributed in many parts of the country with continuous efforts to cover all sectors of the trade nationally. With the opening of the second Tea factory in Gatitu, Kirinyaga in 2022, NTZDC will begin marketing specialty tea that includes standard and purple teas.
